      Serious Foodies - Don Cafeto's

We went to breakfast at Don Cafetos. They do serve lunch and dinner too and I have heard that all their food is very good. But I heard that their breakfast was especially good. It's about in the middle of town on the beach side of the road (east) and the sign looks like this:

      The breakfast menu is here:

When you arrive they give you this HUGE bowl of pickled vegetables (not just at breakfast). They were delicious! It had carrots, potatoes, lots of different peppers, and half a head of garlic. Yes, I ate some of the pickled garlic cloves for breakfast. I made Josh eat one too so he wouldn't smell my breath all day! They also give you a bowl of fresh salsa and it was SPICEY! People tease me and say I am Mexican b/c I love spicey, but this little bowl of salsa actually got to me. Maybe b/c it was early in the day?

I will post the pictures of our breakfast in the next post but Josh got the Desayuno Maya which is an omelette with Chaya and cheese. Poeple say Chaya is like spinach but I think it's more like collard greens or Callaloo. Anyways, you get the idea. It came with mashed potatoes which was kind of funny but they were good!

I got the Azteca b/c I love chilaquiles. They were pretty good. I prefer green chilaquiles and these were red but they were tasty. You could choose to have beef or eggs with the Azteca (I am sure you could get both for extra money) and I chose scrambled eggs.

Can I just say that these breakfasts were huge! It came with toast too. We did not eat lunch that day b/c we were full up until dinner. I like Don Cafeots b/c it is a great mix of locals and tourists. If you are a tourists and feel nervous about trying something new this restaurant is an easy place to start. The menu is in Spanish and English, our server squeezed hand sanitizer onto our hands (I thought that was kind of funny. I mean I have my own...I am American ), and the location is great for people watching.

Oh, and the coffee is very good.
